A bridge too far: The Go-Betweens


Robert Forster (pictured above left) was a huge hit at the Darwin Festival. The seminal indie singer of The Go-Betweens fame now has a bridge named after the band that spawned him. Brisbane City Council has decided to re-name its newest bridge in honour of one of their greatest bands, "...a fitting tribute to a band that helped put Brisbane’s music industry on the map," says Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman. After running a public competition to name it, Hale Street Bridge will now be known as 'The Go-Betweens Bridge'. The naming ceremony occurred in Brisbane with Robert Forster in attendance. He says, "I’ve always regarded bridges as poetic and romantic, so this is something that really appeals to me."
